Go see The Cove!!

I know this is mainly a food blog, but I wanted to use this platform to talk about something that I consider incredibly important.  Before last night I had literally no idea about the extent to which dolphins and whales are being slaughtered in Japan.  The fiance and I watched the movie The Cove last night and it was completely shocking.  Thousands of dolphins are killed yearly in the town of Taiji, Japan and many more are sold off to captivity.

This movie is an absolute must see for everyone… yes, it’s a documentary, but I assure you it is not dry or boring.  The movie is actually the brainchild of Ric O’Barry, the original trainer of Flipper who has spent the rest of his life speaking out against dolphins and whales in captivity.  This movie might make you cry your eyes out like I did.  It’s just so jaw-dropping that this goes on – and it get’s worse… the Japanese people are completely kept in the dark.  They are unknowingly buying and eating dolphin meat that has been incorrectly labeled and on top of the horror in that, they are ingesting highly toxic levels of mercury.

Whether you are vegan/vegetarian, animal lover, or omnivore; you must see this movie and spread the word.  There is literally no effective governmental actions in place to really make an impact on this.  The International Whaling Commission has attempted to end the hunting of whales & dolphins, but to no avail.  It is activists like those shown in the movie that are making any sort of headway and they need out help!
