Much ado about pears!

I am soo loving this week’s BSI!  I have to say that I haven’t really given pears much thought when in the grocery store.  Nothing against them, they just don’t automatically come to mind the way say, apples and bananasdo.  After a quick workout on the treadmill this morning, I chopped up another small pear that I had ripening on the counter and threw it into a bowl of the  pre-made Banana Oats I had made earlier this week.  I think this is my favorite oats combo yet.  I added a little vanilla rice milk to reconstitute the oats, heated it up in the microwave and dug in! 😀

Pear-‘Naner Oats:

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk, water
  • 1/2 banana, sliced very thin
  • 1 small pear, diced (about the size of 2 ping pong balls)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • dash ginger powder
  • dash nutmeg
  • pinch salt

Of course I had some of my ZAP peanut butter along with it… so good!  I really like the kind of gritty feel that pears have in your mouth.  They’re so much softer than apples that when I heated them, they almost melted into the oatmeal.  Underneath the softness though you can actually feel the tiny fibers in the flesh on your teeth and it makes for a very texturally pleasing bowl of oats!!
