Banana Oatymeal
In commemoration of the new blog, I thought it would be only fitting to start it off with a recipe for my favorite breakfast in the world – Oatmeal!
I have just recently become addicted to a new kind of oats with bananas cooked into it thanks to KERF. If you’ve never tried this I definitely suggest you hop on the bandwagon…
Here’s the recipe:
Banana Oatymeal
Ingredients:
-
1/3 cup rolled oats
-
½ cup water
-
½ cup skim milk (I like to use skim plus)
-
½ medium banana
-
½ tsp vanilla extract
-
1 tsp cinnamon
-
½ tsp powdered ginger
-
Pinch salt
Start by combining 1/3 cup rolled oats, 1/2 cup water, and 1/2 cup skim milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Slice a banana into VERY thin pieces, leaving just a few bigger chunks. As the oatmeal heats, stir vigorously at times to “whip” the banana into the oats. The oats will take 5-7 minutes on medium heat to fully absorb the liquid. They’re done when they reach your desired consistency! Then stir in the vanilla, ginger, salt and cinnamon and pour into a bowl. Add any toppings you like, such as almond or peanut butter, toasted walnuts or granola.
**I like my oatmeal a little soupier than most, so if you don’t prefer this just reduce the water and milk to 1/3 cup for each.
